In Detect Evil and Good 5e spell, you have to know if there is celestial, fey, undead or fiend, aberration and these are must be within 30 ft of you and also where the creature has located. When you get to know if there is an object or place which was within 30 ft of you which have been magically consecrated or desecrated.
D&D Detect Evil and Good 5e spell will penetrate many barriers, but it is blocked only by the 1 foot of stone, a thin sheet of lead, 1 inch of common metal, 3 feet of wood or dirt.
