Ancient Copper Dragon Monster D&D 5e (5th Edition)


  • Legendary Resistance(3/Day): When the ancient copper dragon comes to a spot where it has to make a saving throw but then fails the saving throw instead, then with the help of this trait, the dragon can change the outcome and succeed the saving throw.


  • Multiattack: The ancient copper dragon is able to use its action, Frightful Presence following which it can make 3 attacks – one using its bite and the other two with its claws.
  1. Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.
  2. Claw: Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage.
  3. Tail: Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage.
  • Frightful Presence: Any creature of the ancient copper dragon’s choice that is near the dragon by 120 feet and is also aware of it must perform a succeeding DC 19 Wisdom saving throw otherwise the creature will get Frightened for 1 minute. The creature can also repeat the saving throw after the end of its every turn. It will end the Frightened effect as soon as it makes a successful saving throw. The creature will also gain immunity to the dragon’s frightful presence for the following 24 hours, this immunity is gained after the duration of the frightened effect ends or if it successfully makes a saving throw.
  • Breath Weapons(Recharge 5-6): The dragon can use one of the breath weapons noted below.


  • Acid Breath:

The ancient copper dragon puffs out acid in a 90 foot line ahead of it with a width of 10 feet. Each creature in the path of Acid breath must make a successful DC 22 Dexterity saving throw, it will take 63 (14d8) acid damage in case of failure and half of the noted damage if it completes the throw successfully.


  • Slowing Breath: The ancient copper dragon breathes out sleeping gas in a 90 foot conical area in front of it. Any creature that is in the area of Poison breath will have to perform a successful DC 22 Constitution saving throw. In case of a failed save, the creature won’t be able to use reactions, its speed will be cut by half and it won’t be able to make more than a single attack on its turn.The effect lasts for 1 minute and can end immediately if the creature makes a successful saving throw. It can repeat the saving throw after each of its turns.
  • Change Shape: The dragon changes its shape and turns into a humanoid creature or a beast and gets a Challenge rating similar to the creature it transforms while not having a higher rating than its own, otherwise it will be forced to go back to its true form. The dragon will also go back to its original form on death. Any equipment that is carried by the dragon will now be a part of the new shape(of the dragon’s choice) taken by the dragon and it will bear it instead. The dragon will still have its original Legendary Resistance, Lair Actions, Alignment, Hit Points, Hit Dice, ability to speak, proficiencies, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores in its new form. The capabilities and statistics are replaced by the new form except class features and legendary actions of that form.

Legendary Actions

The ancient copper dragon can choose 3 legendary actions from below and any one will be available for use at a time and it can be used only after another creature’s turn. Legendary Actions used will be regained at the next turn.

  • Detect: The dragon makes a check of it target for wisdom(perception).
  • Tail Attack: The dragon uses its tail to attack.
  • Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions): The dragon will beat its wings and any creature within the range of 15 feet must perform a successful DC 23 Dexterity saving throw or take 15(2d6 + 8) bludgeoning damage and get knocked down. The dragon can then also be able to fly for half its flying speed.
